    GE 24-Inch Washer/Condenser Dryer Combo (GFQ14ESSNWW)

    About $1,400 to $1,550

A 24-inch combo that plugs into a standard outlet and fits closets and under counters. Read more

    Pros

    • Fits a 24-inch space
    • 120V plug
    • Lower price

    Cons

    • Small 2.4 cu. ft. drum
    • Condenser drying is slow

An all-in-one washer dryer combo washes and dries in the same drum. You load dirty clothes, and hours later take out dry ones. Most new models need no dryer vent, and several plug into a standard 120-volt outlet. That makes them a good fit for apartments, condos and homes without laundry hookups for a separate dryer.

The trade-off is time. Even the fastest combos take about an hour and a half to wash and dry a load, and big or bulky loads take longer. Separate machines are faster if you have the space.

1. GE Profile UltraFast Combo: Best overall

Who it’s for: Most people who want one machine and the fastest results.

Reviewed named the GE Profile its Editors’ Choice. In testing, it washed and dried a load in about 85 minutes on Quick and about 2 hours on Normal, faster than its rivals. It uses a heat pump dryer, needs only a 120-volt outlet and a drain, and cleaned stains well, especially on the delicate cycle. Reviewed also gave it the edge on warranty and reliability.

What bugs us: Its moisture sensors sometimes ended the cycle with heavy items still damp, so you may need the “More Dry” option. It’s expensive.

Skip it if: you have room and hookups for a separate washer and dryer, which cost less and run faster.

2. Samsung Bespoke AI Laundry Combo: Most capacity

Who it’s for: Bigger households that want the largest drum.

The Samsung has a 5.3-cubic-foot drum and slightly beat the GE at cleaning in Reviewed’s tests. It’s also shorter, more energy efficient and recommended by Consumer Reports. Samsung claims a wash-and-dry in 98 minutes on its Super Speed cycle.

What bugs us: Reviewed found that 98-minute claim holds mainly for small loads, and some owners say bulky bedding takes up to 3 hours. Owners also report waiting weeks for service. It needs about 2 inches of clearance behind it.

Skip it if: fast service matters to you. GE is the safer long-term bet, according to Reviewed.

3. LG WashCombo: Best cleaning

Who it’s for: People who care most about clean clothes and don’t mind waiting.

Reviewed rated the WashCombo’s stain removal top-notch, better than the GE Profile. It has a large 5-cubic-foot drum, a sturdy build and a ventless heat pump dryer.

What bugs us: Drying is slow. An average wash-and-dry took about 142 minutes in testing, and Reviewed found the GE about 1.6 times more efficient at drying.

Skip it if: you do laundry every day.

4. GE 24-Inch Washer/Condenser Dryer Combo: Best compact

Who it’s for: Small apartments, closets and under-counter spaces.

Most combos are 27 to 28 inches wide. This GE is 24 inches and plugs into a standard 120-volt outlet with no vent required. It has steam and sanitize cycles, an Auto Wash + Dry setting and detergent dispensers.

What bugs us: The 2.4-cubic-foot drum is small, and condenser drying is slower than a heat pump. Plan on smaller, more frequent loads.

Skip it if: you wash for more than two people.

What to know before you buy

A hand loading clothes into a front-loading machine

You still need water and a drain

“Ventless” means no dryer vent. You still need a water supply and a drain, like any washer. If you have neither, see the best portable washing machines.

Check the voltage

Many new heat pump combos run on a standard 120-volt outlet. Others need 240 volts. Check before you buy.

Don’t overload the dryer

Combos wash bigger loads than they can dry well. Clothes need room to tumble. For best drying, fill the drum about halfway.

Combo or stacked pair?

A stackable washer and dryer is faster and lets you wash one load while drying another. Here’s the full comparison: washer dryer combo vs stackable set.

Quick answers

How long does a washer dryer combo take? About 1.5 to 3 hours for a wash-and-dry, depending on the machine and load.

Do ventless dryers make the room humid? Heat pump and condenser dryers remove moisture as water down the drain, so they add very little humidity.

Do clothes come out wrinkled? Less so if you remove them soon after the cycle ends. Many combos have a wrinkle-prevent tumble at the end.
